Blog Post #1: Marketing Portfolio Project Topic

1. What product or service are you marketing? Describe it as specifically as possible in one paragraph.

2. By looking at the brand’s (or a similar real brand’s) website/ commercials online (or ads you’ve seen on tv or in magazines), who do you think the brand is targeting its ads towards? (Answer in one paragraph)

  1. The marketing service I will be promoting is a clothing line called Stussy. Stussy has their own kind of style they don’t rip off all of those big stores like Forever 21 or Hollister. Their style is unique and somewhat new. Bringing back some of the old school style and adding it a unique and nice look. The reason why I chose this is because I love their clothes very nice and very unique. The only downside to promoting is that some of the clothes are a bit overpriced. Other then that I say that you should recommend trying out that store and their clothes.
    To me I think this brand is targeting us, more teenagers. Most people just think its just clothes others think it has its own unique taste. The reason I think they are targeting us is mostly because we all have different styles of clothes, like maybe some of us wear the same thing every day. So they ask a few people to try out their clothes and just show it off, and maybe some of those people, who are maybe wearing the same thing every day, can try something new and unique for their wardrobe. As more and more people tend to wear Stussy more teenagers are beginning to get into that sort of style. Its like a disease once more and more people get it the more people tend to spread it more and more every day. I guess people just love wearing Stussy clothing.

  2. The product I will be marketing is sport wear. I will be making my own version of the brand Nike. Just like Nike I will be producing and marketing shoes with qualities for basketball and running and other sports that require specific shoes of performance. Also I will be marketing sports gear for basketball, football and other sports. Addition with sports gear, I will also be marketing accessories to advertise my product off the sports field.
    By looking at Nike’s website they are targeting athletes to catch on to their products. They target athletes by having ads that show they will perform better if they wear their certain product. Such as in one of their commercials it shows athletes training or playing with Nike brand gear that seems to give them a extra push in their game. Also from other ad it seems as if Nike also targets children. They seem to target children by having commercials of sport figures who are heroes to younger kids to encourage them to buy their products to one day have the potential to be just like them. Also they target children by using some of the world’s famous music artist to create jingles for their commercials to have them hooked just as they do with music artist’s songs.

  3. The product I am choosing to market will be Nike. I am choosing Nike because I wear their gear; they have various selections of apparel such as shoes, clothing and hats. I like their products because they are durable, stylish and comfortable. Nike has been around for a very long time, so that means they are a brand you can trust, other stores that sell apparel have great quality but in the long run you need a product that you can rely on and get your money’s worth. I suggest purchasing Nike because they live up to our expectations as long lasting clothing and shoes.

    When Nike sends out their creative messages toward the media I think they’re trying to target us kids. I say this because we love to look stylish and fashionable, and what other way is there to do that other than choosing Nike? It is more advertised around us because they know we enjoy their products and we pretty much will do anything to get them. Say for example we see a commercial about Nike and their new releases; well we’ll want the product they’re choosing to advertise. After the commercial is over we tell our parents about the new product to see if they will purchase them or go get our own money and head to the mall the next day. To kids now a day’s style matters, if you take a look at schools for example, a high majority are buying and wearing brand name clothing, mainly Nike.

  4. 1.) The product I am marketing is Sharpie. Sharpie is a company that sells permanent markers, paint markers, highlighters, and pens. Sharpie was created by Frederick W. Redington and William H. Sanford in the 1850’s. In that time product was called Sanford’s ink. The Sandford’s ink trademark was changed to sharpie in 1964.
    2.) The people I think the product is targeting are the average person. The sharpie marker can be used in a person’s everyday life. From warehouse workers to teachers and even to parents and children. Sharpies can be used for anything. Sharpie has a wide variety of markers so that there is a certain type of marker for every persons job or whatever they need the marker for.

  5. The product that I am marketing is Mike and Ike. Mike and Ike is a candy that is packaged by flavor and sometimes season. They have a hard, smooth outside and a chewy inside. Mike and Ike come in pretty much every flavor of fruit, including lime, grape, blackberry, lemonade and even hot tamales. Each different flavor has its own color based on what it tastes like and each packet has around 5 different flavors. The tasty candy has a unique shape, that looks a lot like pill capsule and they are about 2 cm tall.
    I think the brand is marketing more towards teens and maybe even older kids. Most of their advertizing has to do with sports and music. They use a lot of examples of teen activity in their commercials. They also use very colorful packaging and graphics to attract the younger generation of today’s satiety. They also make the taste of the candy more accommodating to younger taste buds.

  6. 1.The product that I plan to market is Nike athletic shoes. I chose this company because I believe that shoes are one of the many products that the media tries to lure in people to buy most often. More than once have I seen a commercial or add in a magazine or newspaper of shoes and after looking at the ad, have wanted to go out and purchase them. As an athlete myself, I tend to look and be captured by Nike’s advertisements due to their captivating and inspiring television commercials and use of professional athletes. I think that the marketing strategies used by Nike are clever and appealing to almost everybody that is out looking to purchase a new pair of shoes. They also use the endorsements of professional athletes in their advertisements to lure in more customers.
    2.I think that Nike’s advertisements are trying to target everyone who is looking to buy comfortable, fashionable shoes but at the same time I also believe that Nike is doing a better job at targeting athletes. Whether those athletes are young children or adults, all athletes look to Nike to provide them with shoes that will give them the extra edge in their sport. In Nike’s television ads they tend to use sport metaphors as well as professional athletes from every type of sport to target people who play sports of all kinds. Once people see their favorite player supporting Nike’s shoes, they will want to get a pair as well. Also, in Nike’s magazine advertisements that I have come across, all the people in them look very strong, powerful, and athletic. My guess would be that most people who also come across these ads will take a look at the ordinary people in them and want to look and feel just like they do.

  7. The product that I am marketing is Starbuck Coffee. Starbucks Coffee is basically one of the largest coffee companies in the world. Being found almost everywhere, Starbucks is also one of the most popular coffee shops. Starbucks is not only a great place to stop by for coffee, but also a place where people can relax and maybe even study. Their hot beverages, fraps, and food products make people go back every time.
    I think that Starbucks Coffee is targeting its ads towards people of numerous ages. Based on their website and ads, kids can go to Starbucks too, and of course, adults and teenagers .Because of the beverage choices, they are all able to purchase something at Starbucks, either a hot beverage, frap, or even one of their food products. However, I think that Starbucks Coffee is specifically targeting adults because of the fact that they drink coffee more than teenagers and young kids. Starbucks also makes hot chocolate for example for young kids too, which explains that Starbucks is also targeting teens and kids. Starbucks coffee is basically targeting people of all ages.

  8. The product that I am marketing is Gatorade. An assistant coach from a University of Florida discussed with the university physicians about the issues that his athletes had while they were playing. And so this drink was created. Gatorade is a drink to help them avoid losing energy. It helps athletes or anyone who does intense work outs have more energy to keep going. This drink gives electrolytes and fluids that the person needs to keep their pace. Gatorade is consumed by several people throughout the world because of how it helps us to not run out of energy.
    This product mostly targets athletes. Athletes go through intense work outs to get in shape and they need something to keep them dehydrated. Due to their work out, they sweat out electrolytes that their body needs and so, Gatorade helps them replace the electrolytes that they have lost. They need to replace their lost electrolytes and keep their selves hydrated in order for them to keep playing without getting very tired that they cannot keep playing. Gatorade, a carbohydrate-electrolyte beverage, can help athletes go beyond what they can do because of how it helps give athletes more energy and also enables them to play at the top of their game.

  9. The product I have chosen to market is Campbell’s soup. Campbell’s specializes in soup of all varieties from chicken noodle to chicken with mini noodles for people who want fewer calories in their meal. Their soups, however, do contain a large quantity of sodium so it’s not the ideal meal for people on diets. In light of this, Campbell’s had made existing soups with smaller quantities of sodium now and some go for under 100 calories, perfect for those on a diet as well as those just trying to eat healthier. Campbell’s Soup Company had said that their jobs were to “nourish people’s lives everywhere, every day” and their soups are said to be made with real ingredients. Although their soups may seem a bit too pricey now-a-days, their soups are easy to microwave so they’ll be ready in as little as two minutes.

    From what I have seen in television commercials as well as maybe pop up ads on the web I believe that Campbell’s soups are targeting a family, not just one person. That’s what I believe because if you have seen their commercials, there’s one where there’s a kid and he is sick so his mom microwaves some soup for him and he seemed to get better. Course this was just a cartoon commercial, but it does give you the idea that the soup can make you feel better when you’re sick or down in the dumps. When mothers sees these kind of commercials their brains may be sending signals saying “Buy the soup for Timmy” or “Buy the soup for Jenny!” So of course when you get these kinds of brain waves you want to go out and get something that will make your child feel better. Also, when families see these kinds of commercials they may be thinking that the soup is really delicious so they go and try a couple of flavors and could end up liking them.

  10. Famous Stars and Straps is a well known clothing brand. It’s a company that makes clothing, accessories, and skateboards. It originated from CAL in 1999 and founded by Travis Barker, best known for being the drummer of Blink-182. Many other celebrities, including Travis, wore/used FSAS brands. They don’t rip off other brands to make money and they’re really smart at advertising their products.
    The brand mostly targets consumers and anybody that wants to get into the latest styles. Because it’s a clothing brand, it can be sold at many stores-Target is one example. The workers at FSAS try to come up with styles that will seem really appealing to its buyers so they will buy more. They don’t have very many ads, but they manage to get celebrities to use their products. that’s how they’re able to advertise most of their items.

  11. The product I am marketing is Haagen-Dazs Ice cream. I chose this product because it’s one of the most popular brands out there that people love to eat and buy because of its good comments and ratings. This company uses its unique ice cream recipes including dark chocolate from Belgium and handpicked vanilla beans from Madagascar. They use the finest natural ingredients from around the world and has over 900 shops in 50 or more countries. The owners started out with having only 3 flavors: vanilla, chocolate, and coffee. It was the first to introduce the world to ice cream bars for grownups in 1986. They bring new experiences to people, by releasing new flavors every year.
    The brand’s ads and commercials are targeting towards people of all ages unlike other brands that target towards kids to earn money from attracting them. Haagen-Dazs is confident because of their quality and outer appearance. They also target towards people that are on a diet or wanting to eat healthy because they provide yogurts and sorbet that are fat free or less fat. They also target towards people of different nationalities because of the ingredients. For example, the Haagen-Dazs Reserve, on it has French writings and combined with different ingredients together.

  12. The product that I choose was Silk Soymilk. Silk Soymilk is a brand that produces healthy and great tasting soymilk. Silk was the very first refrigerated Soy milk brand. It is also, the best-selling soy milk product out there. They don’t only care about their consumer’s health but they also care about how the soy beans they use are good enough. They have varieties of products, such as: Light Soymilk, Organic Soymilk, Simply Silk, Wellness, and even Soy Milk Creamers.
    I think that Silk Soymilk is targeting its ads towards adults. Many people say that Soy Milk is more for women, than it is for men. It also targets people who are healthy and people who want to be healthy. It's also a very good drink for Women with breast cancer. It decreases 32% risk of them getting breast cancer again.

  13. 1.) The product that I chose to do was the drink called coke. Coke has been here for 143 years and has been sold to 200 and more countries across the world. The drink has been one of the most famous drinks in the world that 1.6 billion people drink coke every day. During the beginning of the creation of coke over the years the consumption of the drink increase from 1988 to 2008 and growing as years pass. As years pass the company is creating new kinds of favor and drinks that everyone can enjoy in everyday life.
    2.) The product is speaking to the people because coke is for anyone to drink. It’s targeting the people young and old because the company has created new types of favors like diet coke and vanilla coke that anyone can have to drink. As years pass coke has spread throughout

  15. The product I’m marketing in is MAC Cosmetics. Cosmetology fills a gap between artistry and Fashion. Mac Cosmetics were launched by two men, a fashion photographer Frank Toskan and salon chain owner Frank Angelo. They started their fashion in Toronto in 1985. MAC founders have to rely on heavy cosmetics. For example, cake makeup, and stage make up. MAC Cosmetics have been around for more than 25 years. MAC Cosmetologists give you the best advices for your skin type and the type of coloring that should be used to create the most beautiful you.

    I think that this product is marketing average age. Which is not early teenage but around 16-50 years old ladies, women. Most of their advertising has to do with Beauty and Fashion. And it also has the season colors. The advertisements have lots of colors and ladies everyday make up compared to their Going out make up. The advertisements are also very organized and make most of the ladies want to try at least on product.

I am marketing on a product call Coke or Coca-cola, this beverage has been sold to more than 200 countries, Coke has a unique flavor in it that attracts people all around the world and offer a refreshing taste. Over the years the company has made many other flavor of coke to keep drinkers interested. The most famous brand is the Classic Coke since it is the first flavor that made everyone hooked.

    I think that this soft drink is marketing to everyone, the young and the old. Coke is going strong for so long and still going strong for many more years. Coke is probably the most famous soft drink in the world and the many flavor of coke is making everyone coming back for more, just like Lays quotes “once you taste it you will wants more” or something like that….

  17. The product that I will be marketing is Juicy Couture. This company was founded by Pamela Skaits-Levi and Gela Nash-Taylor. Juicy Couture sells a wide variety of things such as: clothes; handbags; jewelry; fragrances; and other items. This company is marketed as a high-end clothing line and usually costs more that 100 US dollars each item. You can find Juicy Couture at places such as, Bloomingdales, Nordstrom, and Saks Fifth Avenue. Their handbags and jewelry are very unique and well-designed.

    By looking at Juicy Couture's advertisements on billboards and their website, I think they are trying to target female teenagers and young adults. I think this because we female teenagers want to look elegant, stylish and cute. Also, since the new era for female teens is to carry around purses, they sell lavish-styled purses. At school, a lot of girls carry around Juicy Couture purses. I think they like the designs because they are very attractive and the colors are very unique. Also, when teens or young adults see the billboards, they might like what they see.

  18. The product I am marketing is Sour Patch Kids. Sour Patch Kids are a chewy candy with a coating of sugar. They come in packs woth four colors and flavors: red (Cherry), orange (Orange), yellow (Lemon), green (Lime). They're a child-shape, little frizzy haired kids and they are about 1 inch. A lot of people like this candy, kids and even adults, because its sour and sweet and when you eat one you'll want another one. Today, Sour Patch Kids is the top selling sour candy in North America.

    I think this brand is marketing kids and teens. I think this because sour patches advertise on kid comercials and some sponser on teen shows. In the comercials they have teens in them to adverise the product. They have a colorful packaging to attract kids. They also have a good sweet and sour taste to them that's why a lot of people like them.

    The product I choose to market is SONY. I believe that SONY is one of the biggest companies all over the world. Sony was a company founded in 1946 by two guys called Massaru Ibuka and Akio Morita. Sony specializes on electronics they go from laptops, gaming consoles, TV’s, cameras, MP3 players, to even car audios. This company is very successful due to its high demand; people trust it because of their reputation of high quality and exceptional value. Since it’s a very popular brand people can find it about anywhere not only in the US but worldwide.

    I think that Sony targets the Everyday family and not just men or women. I truly believe so because their products can be used for the everyday life. I their commercials they always introduce newer stuff to the markets that available to everyone. Although some of the items are sure to cost a lot more than one-hundred dollars people say that it’s worth the quality of the item. The brand has been really popular and it’s still is, starting from the first radio made for the model “P” to one of the biggest gaming consoles like a PSP3. This company is sure to be one of the leading companies or the one with high demands for a long time.

  20. 1. The product that I'm going to be promoting is going to be the shoes for women of the brand Simple. That's my primary focus but at times I'll promote their bags as well. I choose Simple because I love the environment and I try to do anything that is in my hands to protect it. Simple is a eco-friendly company that makes their shoes for men, women, kids, and bags all from recycled items. Items that include bam boo, platic, tires, silk, organic cotton and much more. Their shoes are 100% sustainable while being 100% planet friendly and totally unique with their own cuteness. I'm pretty sure that with Simple's products there is no way to go wrong. Their shoes are so comfortable and if I could I would have their whole collection.

    2. Based on my researched online and the stores where I have bought Simple's shoes they're constanly targeting everyone. Every person, from kids to the youth to even the elder. They have it all for all of us. They got products to make men, women, kids, toddlers and elders to fall in love with. It's pretty amazing! Stores where you can find Simple included Nordstorm.

  21. The brand I am going to do is Juicy Couture. The two girls that designed this brand were Gela Nash-Taylor and Pamela Skaist-Levy. They made this in the year 1996. It is a collection of clothing, accessories, jewelry and fragrances created for women. You can find Juicy Stores in Italy, Japan, Hong Kong, China, Malaysia, and United Arab Emirates. This brand is very expensive.
    I think that the brand Juicy Couture is targeting its ads towards everyone especially women. I think this because we’re the ones that are choosing the way we want to look. The more people show Juicy clothing, accessories, etc... The more other people want it. Teenagers want the most latest in fashion so the more they show it around, the more it is wanted. Juicy is a great brand for everyone including men and dogs.

  22. The product or service that I’m doing is cosmetic MAC. This service is really popular for women’s, and especially for the women’s that have interest on doing make up. Here are the products, there are many of them. Like Eye shadow, eyeliner, false eyelashes, mascara, eye kits and bags, foundation for your face, bronzer for your cheeks. Brushes for your eye shadows, or for your lips. Even though people say that MAC is expensive still, a lot of people buy them. Because people say it’s worth it.

    By looking at the brands I think the brand is targeting the girls that have interest on doing make up, or it could be the people that want to work at Mac.

  23. The product I am marketting is construction machinery. Such brands as Caterpillar. Heavy Machinery like bulldozers, wrecking balls, giant trucks. The usual construction site machinery people see.

    These brands are trying to target hard working construction companies that have big jobs. Im sure they're pretty expensive so it would take a pretty big company to actually get one. Or rent one at that matter.

  24. I will be copying the fast food machine known as McDonald’s. Most of you already know what they sell but in case you have been living under a rock for the past century, McDonalds is a fast food restaurant that sells food like burgers and chicken nuggets. They also sell salad to the healthy ones but the actual nutrition of the salads is in question. I will be calling it Mcgoodburger and will be selling the same things it does.

    Their primary targets are little kids. Their commercials mainly have their mascot, Ronald McDonald the Clown with little kids and going into a restaurant enjoying them. In other commercials they have commercials involving the toys they give away with each “Happy Meal” and the kids having the most fun with them. I plan to recreate that and make commercials targeting the younger population... But I will also try to make some targeting adults like commercials for the McCafĂ© that serves coffee for the morning.

The brand im going to do is raybay sun-glasses i think these sunglasses are very popular inside and outside our country, they are made for any age. i like these brand because you can make publicity by using hollywood stars so everybody would buy them, they also come in variuos styles which makes evrybody who is using them feel comfortable with their own style.

    i thik the brand is using teenagers and adults that like to wear sun-glasses but in a very stylish way adults like to use sunglasses almost most odf the time and by using this brand you show that you have style and money because these brand is expensive. i also say that is targeting teenagers or young adults because these group of the society is always tring to be adults and copy everything adults do to seem older and cool so these brand works perfectly.

  26. The product I am marketing is a basically a technology brand that is composed of unique sets of devices: like the Macintosh for a computer, the iPod for an MP3, and the iPhone for a cell phone. Apple started off as a not to successful company when it was first created, and sprouted to become one of the top companies, with its unique style. They had brought a whole new idea of computers from a PC to a Macintosh into becoming a user-friendly interface. With its creation of the iPhone, it has gained popularity of not only the United States, but many other countries. Its expansion of an MP3 gave t he world another meaning toward music.

    I believe the brand is advertising to a variety of ages, especially towards anyone showing interest in a personal computer. Apple is mainly targeting people who want to have fun and a user friendly interface, instead of a boring business type of computer like a PC. Although their prices for a Macintosh are expensive, their computer is comprised of a large amount of capabilities in programs, especially relating toward music. It is also possible for Apple to target people who have an interest for music. The shift in Macintosh computers at school promote the idea that they may even target to teens, but I generally believe Apple targets the upper and middle class, from teens to young adults due to its fun capabilities.

  27. The product I am choosing will be rocawear. I’m choosing rocawear because I like rocawear and wear rocawear. Rocawear started in 1995 is not a brand but a lifestyle co-created by one of the greatest rappers of all time, Jay-Z.
    Rocawear has expanded is brand through licensing pacts to develop lines for children (Kids Headquarters), junior's (Signature Apparel), socks (Gina Group), handbags and belts (M. London), big & tall (Endurance), headwear (Nas Industries), jewelry (K & M Associates ), ladies intimates and men's loungewear/underwear (Age Group), ladies footwear (Topline), Men's Footwear ( Two Feet Productions) and sunglasses/Optical frames (Colors in Optics).

    one of the most famous shoe brands if not the most famous.
    its known worldwide & its been around longer than most peoples lives.
    they make hundreds of different types of shoes that people where everyday.
    there is all different type of nike shoes not just one which is
    why i chose them because they have all different types of looks to their shoes.
    & although some of there shoes are overpriced alot aren't which is easier for everyone
    to get a pair. when i look at the nike website i know that its targeting young athletes.
    not just necessarily guys but also female athletes as well. they have a basketball & also
    a football page. & on every page of the website they have a athlete on it. i feel like the
    overall message on the website is to push those young athletes to above & beyond the limits
    because since its showing famous athletes all over the website it almost makes you wanna
    be where they are.
